Lambertianic acid is a biologically active diterpene with anti-allergic, antibacterial and anti-cancer activities. Lambertianic acid can reduce the levels of androgen receptor protein, prostate-specific antigen in cells and secretion. Lambertianic acid also inhibits cell proliferation by inducing G1 phase arrest, down-regulating CDK4/6 and cyclin D1, activating p53, p21 and p27. Lambertianic acid induces apoptosis and promotes the expression of related proteins, including cleaved caspase-3/9, c-PARP and BAX, while inhibiting BCL-2. Lambertianic acid is expected to be used in the research of prostate cancer.
