Cannabidiol (abbreviated as CBD) is one of cannabinoids identified in cannabis. It is a major phytocannabinoid, accounting for up to 40% of the plant's extract. CBD does not have intoxicating effects like those caused by tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and may have an opposing effect on disordered thinking and anxiety caused by THC. In addition to its presence in cannabis, CBD is approved for medical use for the treatment of pain associated with multiple sclerosis in Canada and for the treatment of rare forms of childhood epilepsy in the United States.
